Possible statutory authority
We want to be good at what we do and provide the best possible outcome for Canberrans in the way transport is run for our city. We will look towards setting up a statutory authority for the existing ACTION service whereby it can become accountable for its expenditure and service delivery and we can set standards to ensure it is accountable in every way. We believe that the planning and business decisions for the operation should be able to be done in-house, rather than being split across different agencies.
Publish data and performance and monitor the network
We want everyone to know how the system is travelling. We will publish as much data about the delivery of the bus network as possible daily. The ticket system software through MyWay should have the capability to allow us to do this and, if not, we will use transponders in buses and other real time tracking systems to make this information available to anyone who is interested. It will also enable us to track our progress and plan for the future. We also plan to set up a Transport services control centre and use it to monitor the city’s bus system including monitoring bus stops for passenger safety combined with input from the Road Services group and local emergency services so that we can keep traffic, especially our buses, moving 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We will push information to customers across the network using onboard information systems, at stops using real time displays and audio equipment as well as to their personal devices through apps and social media.
